    • How can library programs (virtual and on-site) help parents as their child’s first teacher?

    • What types of materials work well in baby programs, and how can they be adapted for an at-home audience?

    • What are age-appropriate, early literacy building activities that children’s librarians have used successfully online?

  • Free Webinar – Cultivating Community Support for Library Funding

    Date: Tuesday, February 09, 2021
    Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
    Place: Online at tinyurl.com/yxmpu9dg
Presenter: Patrick Sweeney, EveryLibrary Political Director
    Cost: Free

Political power and influence comes from only two resources: people and money. Without at least one of these, your library will not have the influence it needs in the community to encourage local legislators to support your library. And when the time comes, you’ll lack the community support needed to advocate for your library.

In this webinar session we’ll focus on the strategies and tactics that you can use to increase the number of library supporters in your community. We’ll talk about tools you can use to reach library supporters and non-users in order to encourage them to take action for your library. Many of these tools are either free or inexpensive and the underlying strategies that we use can be applied to libraries of all sizes and budgets. At the end of this session, you’ll be able to increase your email list, make meaningful contact with non-users, and cultivate potential supporters into action.

Please register for this event at the link above.

Almost a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, libraries, archives and museums (LAMs) continue to adapt and respond. These institutions face the challenges of redesigning services to limit the spread of the virus while meeting community and staff needs amid uncertainty. Providing science-based information to support local decision making, the REopening Archives, Libraries and Museums (REALM) project is conducting research on how long the COVID-19 virus survives on materials that are prevalent in LAMs. With six rounds of lab testing and two scientific literature reviews completed, project team members will provide an update on the latest results, summarize what is known and unknown about the virus, and highlight free resources. Presenters will share strategies implemented at their institutions, and the project team will preview what is on the horizon for REALM, and for LAMs.

Presented by: Chris Cooper, Director of Library Services, Humboldt County Library (CA); Robin Foley, Director of Operations, The Buffalo History Museum (NY); Anna Musun-Miller, REALM Toolkit Editor, Museums, OCLC; and Kendra Morgan, Senior Program Manager, WebJunction.
